- It’s 125 grams of butter.
- It’s 1 tbsp of tomato paste.
- You need 2 tbsp of brown sugar.
- It’s 2 of eggs.
- It’s 2 cup of plain flour.
- Prepare 1 tsp of baking powder.
- Prepare 1 tsp of bicarbonate of soda.
- It’s 2 tsp of dried basil.
- Prepare 1/4 cup of tomato juice (or diluted tomato paste).

Easy Tomato and Basil Bread step by step
- Preheat oven to 180C.
- Cream butter, tomato paste, brown sugar and eggs.
- Sift together flour, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda; stir in dried basil.
- Gradually stir in creamed mixture into dry ingredients with tomato juice; dough may appear wet and sticky. Fold in the shredded Cheddar.
- Spoon into lightly greased 15x21cm loaf tin (I prefer baking paper).
- Bake in oven for 40-50minutes or until skewer comes out clean. Serve warm or cooled with soups, casseroles, et cetera.
