- It’s 2 1/4 cups of water (130°F).
- It’s 2 1/2 Tbsp of active yeast.
- You need 1/2 cup of melted butter.
- You need 2 Tbsp of sugar.
- You need 3 tsp of salt.
- Prepare 6 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour.

- In a large bowl add 1 cup warm water, 1 tbsp sugar and sprinkle in yeast. Set aside to “proof” or get foamy, about 10 minutes..
- Pour into stand mixer, add melted butter, remaining sugar and salt and mix until combined. Gradually add flour. Knead with your mixer or by hand for about 5 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic..
- Place in a large greased bowl. Cover, place in oven with light on and allow to rise until doubled, (about 45 minutes).
- After first rise, punch dough down and form into 6 equal sized balls. Place dough balls on a greased cookie sheet and lightly cover with plastic wrap. Let rise once more for about 20-30 minutes..
- Preheat oven to 425°F and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool and then cut out the top..
- Using your hands, press the dough inside the ball firmly to the bottom and sides..
- Fill with you favorite stew or chili (we used my homemade chicken stew).
- Serve immediately.
